What’s your style?

Whether you want to go for a minimalist or opulent aesthetic with your wedding flowers on your wedding day, remember that your florals can set the overall vibe of the day with every detail.

What’s your budget?

On average the couples I work with spend between 8 and 12 percent of their overall budget on flowers.

This is a significant amount and therefore should make a large contribution to the overall celebrations.

What flowers do I need?

Often starting at the welcome dinner, the day before the wedding, the ceremony flowers, bouquets, boutonnieres, reception flowers, ceremony arches, table arrangements and general floral décor around the venue, on to possible florals for the next day event as a casual brunch barbeque.

Where do my ideas come from?

In my over 30 years since I graduated as a Master Florist in my native Holland, I have been looking after floral décor for many weddings.

As Flowers for a wedding have always been a constant, many things have changed and vary from year to year with changing trends, etc.

From new flower varieties appearing at the flower market to general trends often following, fashion, architecture and interiors, I’m always trying to keep ahead of what’s coming next.

What’s changed with wedding flowers?

Over the past years I’ve seen a lot of focus on more natural floral looks with the use of lots of Irish greenery and loose and natural style floral statement arches being the focal point of the ceremony.

The large Wedding arch as a backdrop for a photo became very popular during the covid period where weddings were for many couples reduced to only the minimum number of guests. At that time, I created lots of large focal arches where the couple would take their first picture of their wedding.

Their photographer sharing this in real time on social media so all the friends and family that were not able to be there in person still felt part of the day.

What I think is here to stay?

Large statement wedding arches are here to stay. As a backdrop for the ceremony, at the entrance to the venue, on the way into the dance floor  or dining room or even just somewhere at an un-expected location where photos can be taken and obviously lots of selfies by the guests throughout the wedding celebrations.

Here's some of the things I believe will be big for wedding flowers for 2025

Embracing One Flower Type

Calla lilies for weddings

Sometimes keeping it simple can be better. I see brides choosing just Calla lilies or just Roses.

From their bouquets, buttonholes, ceremony flowers all the way to their table centre flowers they want me to use just Roses. Maybe Roses and Baby’s Breath only can be your starting point.

I could see all white roses with the softest of peach and pink roses in different sizes for the bridal party and possibly for the ceremony. Then we could move into a slightly more colourful spectrum with the addition of some stronger pink and lemon or stronger peach roses for the dining table flowers.

Simple does not mean boring!

Potted plants as part of the Floral Décor on the Isle

Whether it’s along the Isle, at the entrance to the venue or at the front door of your home from where you leave to your wedding, I see potted plants making a large entry as part of wedding décor for 2025 weddings.

Imagine lots of potted flowering plants in different sizes and shapes all the way along your Isle leading you, as if you walk through a cottage garden, along the isle to your wedding. Pots can be subdued in all terra-cotta or even vibrant and colourful ceramics.

And after the wedding they can become a permanent reminder of your wonderful wedding or send them home with your guest as a keepsake.

Centrepieces with “Residential” Vibes

Wedding table centrepieces do not necessarily have to have that over the top “Wedding flower display” look. I see more brides moving to the style of table décor as they would like to see it done at their perfect dinner party at home. Think a table filled with elegant small bud vases in either glass or ceramic of different sizes with a selection of flowers as if they were picked from your very own rose garden. This combined with the best quality of beautiful candles – and candles are something you do not want to compromise on – in stunning candle holders and of different sizes.

What I see is beautiful table settings that wow your guests walking into the room and feel personal and intimate when guests are seated.

Hanging floral displays

Luxury Wedding flowers at Mount Juliet, Ireland.

There’s nothing new to hanging floral décor at a wedding. We’ve decorated overhead beams or all white marquee ceilings with soft flowing Irish trailing greens. We’ve even created up side down hanging gardens over the dining room.  Creating clouds of flowers at different heights or garlands of natural greens with soft Jasmine flowers and the most delicate of fairy lights criss cross through the room to create the ambiance you desire. As a combination with table centre flowers that feel more homely as described above, I urge you to look up and see what the options are for hanging floral décor.

Bold and unexpected colours and unusual flower varieties

Why not having a large statement floral as a backdrop for your musicians where you will dance the night away with your guests. Here we can add some fun and unusual, bright colour flowers such as lilac, purple, blue, cerise, lime green, yellow; think the Aurora Borealis. Then let’s back this up with a conversation with your lighting experts to re-create this across the ceiling over your dance floor.

Would you join me there on the dance floor?

Conclusion

I always get excited talking to a couple about their wedding flowers. I will try to get a feel of who you are, what’s important to you both and what fits within your celebrations,

There are so many different things we will take into consideration from seasonality, location, venue, overall style and feel you would like your wedding to have and much more.

Do you want your wedding to feel like a grand affair at the castle or are you looking to re-create your most fun dinner party that you had in your home but now with many more people.

I suggest to use the time leading up to your wedding with looking at all the different options where you can make your wedding most personal, Think about the wedding you were a guest at and why you remember this wedding over others.

I guarantee you that the couple did their planning, using professional wedding suppliers and everyone involved creating their dream wedding knew what they were doing so that the event itself felt like the most easy-going, natural gathering of people important to the bride and groom.

And isn’t that what you want for your wedding?

Put in the work, plan and work with the best and on the day:  Enjoy.

Have fun planning your wedding,

Send me a message if we can work together, creating your perfect wedding celebration.
